ESPN has apologized for a ridiculously inappropriate and unprofessional report on the showering habits of Rams rookie Michael Sam. The odd report on Tuesday, delivered by Josina Anderson commented on which players have or have not showered with the openly gay player and how some players feel about having him in the showers.
As assumed, the network was ripped for the decision to discuss the showering behavior of grown men, thus prompting a statement of apology on Wednesday morning:
ESPN regrets the manner in which we presented our report. Clearly yesterday we collectively failed to meet the standards we have set in reporting LGBT-related topics in sports.
Rams defensive end Chris Long was among the first to publicly ridicule ESPN for the report, issuing a simple, yet very powerful stance on having Sam on the team:
Dear ESPN, Everyone but you is over it.
