Aside from being a pitching phenom, Mo’ne Davis can absolutely ball.

Seen here in an old video (uploaded 2010) wearing her no. 11 for the Anderson Monarchs, Davis gets to the free throw line, jabs left, goes right and makes the poor defender fall on his behind.

For those that know Mo’ne, this isn’t anything that they would be shocked to see. According to some who know her game the best, Mo’ne may be an even better basketball player than she is a baseball player:

“Coaching boys and girls in this age group for two decades, Mo’ne is just a special talent,” said Debra Brady, Davis’s basketball coach at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia. “She’s a phenomenal pitcher, but I think her best sport is basketball. In a year or so, she will be doing the same unbelievable things in basketball. The first couple of games I coached her, she was head and shoulders above any kid I’ve ever coached at that age level.”

Steve Bandura, of the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation, didn’t withhold praise for Davis’ game at all, likening her to one of the best point guards of all-time:

Bandura has coached nearly every one of Davis’s games with the Anderson Monarchs basketball club, and No. 11 rarely disappoints.

“She’s Steve Nash,” said Bandura, whose son is the catcher for the Philadelphia Little League team Davis plays on. “She sees the floor and analyzes better than all the high school kids. She’s amazing. She manipulates the defense to open passing lanes. She plays chess when everybody else is playing checkers.”

The Nash comparison may not be that far off as far as Davis’ game goes but that crossover had Iverson written all over it.

Seriously, if Mo’ne Davis is even better at basketball than baseball, then maybe Jordan comparisons won’t be that far behind. After all, in a match of baseball skills, Davis may already have MJ beat.
