Appalachian Mountains
Why hike the Appalachian Trail when you can drive it? You’ll drive through New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. While you wont see the same views as you would if you hiked, you’ll get kinda close. You’ll drive on Blue Ridge Parkway, a beautiful highway that connects two national parks. If you start in New Hampshire, the trip is around 1,200 miles. Cut the trip in half and start in Washington DC, for 640 miles instead.
Attractions: Shenandoah National Park (VA), Great Smoky Mountains (TN), Humpback Rocks (Blue Ridge, VA), Grand Caverns (Grottoes, VA). Biltmore Estate (Asheville, N.C.)
