NHL goaltenders have been stepping up their game when it comes to the designs of their masks. Recently we saw Steve Mason’s creepy Ben Franklin zombie mask, which to be fair, is pretty neat, but doesn’t quite compare to the new mask of St. Louis Blues prospect, Jordan Binnington. The 20-year old netminder is currently playing for the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, and debuted his 2013-2014 mask which features the face of Will Smith circa The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. While he may not yet be NHL ready, his mask certainly is.
In Goal Magazine caught up with Jordan to find out about the inspiration behind the design:
“Outside of the TV show, from what I see he is a self-driven individual who knows what he wants in life. I couldn’t name one movie I haven’t enjoyed with him in it. Every movie or show has a purpose. The tv show is so creative, I’m laughing out loud every episode. So to sum it all up I just feel we’d be best friends.”
We hear ya, Jordan. Although we would have preferred an homage to Bill Cosby.
