JaVale McGee is truly the gift that keeps on giving. McGee tossed himself an alley-oop just a day after his coach, George Karl, said the following:
“He’s got to understand that lazy and crazy isn’t going to make it work,” Karl said. “We want solid and we want fundamental, and we want spectacular but only when it happens, not forcing the action where sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t.”
I would like to breakdown what Karl said against what McGee did and think about how Karl may have reacted after seeing the oop…
“He’s got to understand that lazy and crazy isn’t going to make it work” – This one is a toss up. Tossing your self an alley-oop is kind of smart but also kind of crazy. One thing is for sure, it is NOT lazy. Good boy, JaVale.
“We want solid and we want fundamental” – Not exactly what went down, bad JaVale.
“and we want spectacular but only when it happens, not forcing the action where sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t” – This one is a real toss up. On one hand, George could be super pleased that this was one of those times where JaVale could have been ‘badly’ forcing the action, but it could have also been one of those ‘good’ forcing the action sort of moments. So we think George just laughed and said “that is JaVale being JaVale.”
