It can be hard for retired athletes to keep weight off. After years of basically slamming back carbs with impunity, it is often difficult to change eating habits that have built up over years.

Hence, Scott Mitchell’s decision to appear on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser”. Mitchell used to be an NFL quarterback who played for the Dolphins, Lions, Ravens and Bengals (insert joke about “Biggest Loser” and “Dolphins, Lions and Bengals” here). He looked like this during his playing days:

Fast forward twenty years and Mitchell now looks like this:

The dramatic change that Mitchell has made isn’t only cosmetic. Scott is also dealing with some health issues that are related to his weight. Per NBC.com:

“Now 46 years old and 366 pounds, Mitchell has sleep apnea and high blood pressure. Weight has been an issue since age 35 due to a busy life and poor diet. With five kids ranging in age from 11 to 21, he wants to be there for his family and is ready to embrace a healthy lifestyle. When he loses the weight, he says he wants to look amazing in clothes and be physically active.”

Joining Scott on “The Biggest Loser” will be Damien Woody, a former NFL offensive lineman who played for the Detroit Lions, the New England Patriots and the New York Jets. Woody used to look like this:

And this is what he currently looks like:

Admittedly, it’s not as dramatic as Mitchell’s weight shift but it can’t be forgotten that Woody is nearly 400 pounds. That’s a lot of weight, even for a former NFL lineman.

“The Biggest Loser” returns on September 11th.
