Chicago Sky star rookie Angel Reese has been pretty critical of the WNBA referees throughout her first season in the league, but she benefitted greatly from a horrible missed call from the referees this week.
During Friday night’s game against the Dallas Wings, Angel Reese stole the ball and had a breakaway layup at the other end. But as she dribbled across the court, the camera shows that she touched both hands to the ball not once, but twice, and should have been called for a double-dribble as a result.
“Yo @wnba refs, we gotta have a talk,” a fan said on social media while sharing a video of the egregious double dribbles.

It’s quite ironic that Reese got away with such clear double dribbles because less than a week ago she was complaining about the league’s referees and how some players got “a special whistle” when it came to the calls they get from the WNBA referees.
“I can’t control the refs and they affected the game, obviously, a lot tonight,” Reese said after the team’s recent loss to the Indiana Fever. “Y’all are probably going to play that clip like 20 times before Monday.”
“For inside, I think that we were playing really hard. I think we went up really strong a lot of times and we didn’t get a lot of calls. And going back and looking at the film, I’ve seen a lot of calls that weren’t made. I guess some people got a special whistle,” Reese said.
Needless to say, it sounds like she was the one who got the special whistle this time.
