The off-season is not going off as planned for the Florida college basketball program. Two Florida basketball players have been arrested on felony burglary charges for allegedly breaking into a car this weekend.
Sophomore forward Erik Murphy, 20, and freshman forward Cody Larson, 19, were charged with one felony count of third-degree burglary. The pair was released on a $5,000 bond after being booked at the St. Johns County Jail early Sunday morning.
Joshua Adel, who is the team manager, was charged with principal to burglary by acting as a lookout.
Officers believe Murphy and Larson went into a bar around 2 a.m, claimed to have lost a wallet and apparently tried to get near an employee counting money in order to steal the cash. The plan did not unfold the way they wanted to and bouncers told the players to leave, then witnessed them breaking into a co-worker’s car across the street. Police say the victim didn’t notice any items missing from his car.
Larson’s arrest could violate terms of a two-year probation he received last May for an alleged prescription drug offense. He also received a 120-day suspended jail sentence in the case.
