ESPN did something many sports networks have not in the past, when they showed on TV pro bowler Scott Norton openly embracing and kissing his husband and didn’t pan away or pretend it didn’t happen. The kiss happened following Scott Norton’s victory over Jason Belmonte in the 2012 PBA Chameleon Championship in Las Vegas, which was held in November, but shown on TV this past Sunday. The moment was extremely emotional for Norton who broke down in tears following the victory in memory of a friend who had died. Following that he kissed and embraced his husband, Craig Woodward.
According to Outsports.com, ESPN did not shy away from addressing the couple and Scott’s husband, Craig, was introduced as his husband or spouse interchangeably.
By no means should we celebrate a TV station doing the correct thing, but it is refreshing to see.
