Redbox, the movie rental kiosk company, has begun raising its prices in some areas by as much as 20% per night. Areas in Texas and Oregon saw their DVD rentals go from $1 to $1.15 or $1.20. It was just last month when Netflix raised its streaming and rental subscriptions 60%—and that didn’t go over well with its customers.
According to an article in Variety, Redbox has been testing pricing variations in other parts of the country as well, including California and Florida.
At this time there is no indication or evidence that Redbox Blu-ray and video game rentals are part of the same test. This does not mean this won’t change in the future.
