Transgender runner Aayden Gallagher dominated at the Portland Interscholastic League Championship semifinals this week, winning one event and finishing in second in another to earn a spot in the finals. But not everyone was celebrating her success.

Gallagher finished in first in the girls 400-meter preliminary event and second in the girls 200-meter preliminary event to qualify for the finals. Gallagher, a transgender girl, was allowed to participate in the girls events by the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) policy for transgender athletes.

“The OSAA endeavors to allow students to participate for the athletic or activity program of their consistently asserted gender identity while providing a fair and safe environment for all students,” the policy states according to Fox News.

“As with Rule 8.2 regarding Duration of Eligibility / Graduation, rules such as this one promote harmony and fair competition among member schools by maintaining equality of eligibility and increase the number of students who will have an opportunity to participate in interscholastic activities.”

But even though she was well within the rules, not everyone was happy about the fact that she was allowed to participate in the event.

It’s clear that her dominance in the sports has led to a lot of criticism.
