Earlier this month, the University of Nevada women’s volleyball team appeared to have no problem playing against a transgender opponent as the school made it clear that they intended to take on San Jose State and transgender player Blaire Fleming.
But this week, they announced the final decision in that regard that’s very different from their previous decision.
This week, Nevada issued a statement announcing its final decision on the matter, revealing that the team has now refused to play against San Jose State and Blaire Fleming. Instead, the school will forfeit.
“We, the University of Nevada Reno women’s volleyball team, forfeit against San Jose State University and stand united in solidarity with the volleyball teams of Southern Utah University, Boise State University, the University of Wyoming, and Utah State University,” the team wrote in an exclusive statement to OutKick.
“We demand that our right to safety and fair competition on the court be upheld. We refuse to participate in any match that advances injustice against female athletes.”
This decision comes after the school had previously issued a statement declaring that the team would play its match against San Jose State as planned.
Nevada now becomes the fifth team to forfeit a game against San Jose State due to the presence of Fleming on the roster.
Clearly, Nevada is not supportive of transgender women competing in women’s sports.
