This week, an Australian soccer tournament made headlines when five transgender women were permitted to play in a women’s tournament and ultimately led their team to victory and a substantial cash prize. And tennis legend Martina Navratilova is not at all happy about it.
According to a report from The Daily Mail Australia, five transgender women competed in the pre-season Beryl Ackroyd Cup women’s soccer tournament in Sydney, Australia, where they dominated the competition and won the championship.
“Flying Bats FC won every game they played over the course of the four-week competition, winning the grand final 4-0 at Macquarie Park on Sunday to take home the $1000 jackpot,” The Daily Mail Australia wrote this week.
“There were huge winning margins in some games, with one trans player scoring six goals in a 10-0 victory.”
When news of this spread on social media, Navratilova was quick to express her outrage.
Been angry for years now- the unfairness is off the charts. I will say it again- keep women’s sports female. It is not the place for any (failed) male athletes https://t.co/Ofa6WzdmhN

“Been angry for years now- the unfairness is off the charts. I will say it again- keep women’s sports female. It is not the place for any (failed) male athletes,” Navratilova said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Navratilova has not been shy about criticizing transgender athletes on social media, and this is another example.
