U.S. President Joe Biden and Donald Trump took part in the first 2024 presidential debate on Thursday night. But in the midst of all of the political topics discussed throughout the night, one rather shocking claim from Biden about his golf game caught the attention of many golf fans.

Trump has previously made many claims about how great of a golfer he is. But during the debate on Thursday, Biden challenged Trump to both a long-drive competition and a standard round of golf.

Biden then went on to even claim that he was at a six-handicap while he was vice president for Barack Obama.

“You can see he is 6-foot-3” and all of 235 pounds,” said Biden. “Just take a look at what he says he is. Look, I would be happy to have a driving contest with him. I got my handicap down to a six. By the way, I told you before I’m happy to play golf with you if you carry your own bag. You think you can do it?”

Trump immediately called out Biden for this claim, saying that it was the “biggest lie” of the night from his opponent.

“That’s the biggest lie that he is a six handicap,” said Trump. “Of all… I’ve seen your swing, I know your swing.”

For Biden’s claim to be true, it would mean that he would have to have accomplished the goal of a six-handicap while he was between 66-74 years of age, depending on when throughout Obama’s two-term presidency it happened.

While that isn’t impossible, it is at the very least quite surprising. And naturally, golf fans weighed in on whether they thought this was potentially true.
