The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, more commonly known as PETA, announced they will “bombard” spectators of the 2024 Hot Dog Eating Contest by encouraging them to go vegan.
According to Fox News, the organization says it has a “life-size, hyperrealistic pig transport truck” that is wrapped in images of pigs in cages en route to the slaughterhouse.
“Hell on Wheels” is the name PETA gave the truck.
“Behind every hot dog is a once-living, sensitive individual who was crammed onto a truck for a terrifying, miserable journey to their death,” Tracy Reiman, PETA’s executive vice president, told Fox News Digital.
“PETA’s ‘Hell on Wheels’ truck is an appeal to anyone who eats pigs, cows, or other animals to remember that the meat industry is cruel to them and the only kind meal is a vegan one.”
The truck is set to be outside the annual eating competition at 11 EST, an hour before the frenzy begins.
The Hot Dog Eating Contest takes place on Coney Island. The reigning champ, Joey Chestnut, will stage a personal contest from afar after Major League Eating banned him from the competition after he signed a marketing deal with Nathan’s Hot Dogs, a competitor to a brand endorsed by the league.
