Former American president Donald Trump faces massive court action in New York State on Tuesday.
State Attorney General Letitia James alleges the Trump Organization, under the direction of Trump and his adult children, inflated financial assets like hotels and golf courses to defraud insurance companies and obtain favorable loans from banks as it built its real estate empire.
Trump was in court on Tuesday as his former longtime fixer, Michael Cohen, was set to testify in front of Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron.
It’s reportedly the first time the two have crossed paths in five years. Trump didn’t have to hear a second of the testimony before blasting his longtime employee.
“Well, he’s a proven liar and a felon and served a lot of time for lying,” Trump told reporters as he walked into the courtroom, according to The New York Post.
“He’s a liar trying to get a better deal for himself, but it’s not going to work.”
Cohen served three years in prison after pleading guilty to campaign finance violations, tax fraud, bank fraud and lying to Congress in 2018. He’s set to testify in the penalty phase of the trial, which will determine how much Trump owes for his alleged crimes.
Trump, like all other Americans, is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
