Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter typically isn’t considered a dirty player around the National Hockey League, but he’ll likely be getting a call from the Department of Player Safety after this play on Tuesday night. During the Wild’s contest against the Penguing in Pittsburgh, Suter caught Pens forward Steve Downie up high with an elbow to the face, sending him crashing to the ice and – ultimately – to the locker room with an injury.
Refs apparently missed the incident somehow, as Suter wasn’t penalized on the play. Regardless, the veteran defenseman should expect to hear from those in charge of player safety and be prepared to answer for the dangerous and illegal hit.
