If you’ve always dreamed of watching your favorite NHL team in a Winter Classic type setting, you may be in luck. Starting next season, the NHL will begin a stadium series of outdoor games. After the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings meet in the Winter Classic on January 1st, the league will feature five more outdoor games for the 2014 season. The list includes:
Los Angeles Kings vs. Anaheim Ducks (Dodger Stadium)- Jan. 25th
New York Rangers Rangers vs. New Jersey Devils (Yankee Stadium)- Jan. 26th
New York Rangers vs. New York Islanders (Yankee Stadium)- Jan. 29th
Chicago Blackhawks vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (Soldier field)- Mar. 1st
Ottawa Senators vs. Vancouver Canucks (BC Place)- Mar. 2nd
These additional games are a great way to generate revenues for the league and draw in new fans. The downside, of course, is that it has the potential to dilute the novelty of the Winter Classic. Personally, I’ll be watching all of them, and most likely camping outside of Dodger Stadium for a few nights prior to Jan. 25th.
