Former United States President Donald Trump will obviously be rooting for the Florida Panthers against the Edmonton Oilers during Game 7 of the Stanely Cup Final in hopes that the Panthers can save him from some embarrassment that would come if the Oilers were to win and claim the Stanely Cup.
Earlier this month, the Panthers seemed to be cruising toward their first Stanley Cup victory in franchise history. Florida took a commanding 3-0 lead in the series and seemed to be absolutely dominating the Oilers. But that was until Donald Trump expressed his praise and support for the Panthers.
In the middle of Game 4, as the Panthers were trying to close out the series and pull off the sweep, Trump voiced his support for Florida in a post on social media.
“Wow, the Florida Panthers are a fantastic Ice Hockey Team. They’re 3-0 against the very good Edmonton Oilers from Canada. They’re down 1 to 0 tonight, but it’s still early. Hopefully they will put them away. Very impressive!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Of course, things have gone downhill for the Panthers ever since Trump made that post. Florida lost that game by a score of 8-1 then lost the next two games by scores of 5-3 and 5-1 respectively. Now, the series is headed to a pivotal Game 7 on Monday night as the Panthers are on the verge of becoming the first NHL team in more than 80 years to blow a 3-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final.
Needless to say, Trump is looking to avoid embarrassment as his critics will almost certainly declare that he cursed the team with his support if the Oilers do pull off the historic comeback. And there’s nothing Trump hates more than losing and embarrassment.
