In just two days, the Madden NFL 15 cover will be decided between Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. I know what you’re thinking, who cares about the cover of a video game? Well, apparently Sherman and Newton do.
Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:
I’d more than willing to bet that Sherman wins the vote. But he shouldn’t. Not that Sherman isn’t the better overall player. I’m almost positive he is. But this is a video game, not the NFL.
How many people play with a cornerback in Madden? How many people play with a quarterback?
In other word, there can be a huge difference between good NFL players and good Madden players. Tom Brady is a great NFL player and Madden player. But take any top offensive lineman in the league and they aren’t going to make that big of an impact in Madden.
Obviously Sherman will make more of an impact than an offensive lineman, but he still won’t be any fun to control in the game. Like in real life, where opposing quarterbacks (except Colin Kaepernick) ignore Sherman’s side of the field, it’s too easy to simply play away from Sherman.
Which is why Cam Newton should win. Everyone has to play with the quarterback. Newton is one of the best in the business. He’s one of the most fun Madden players to use. Sherman isn’t.
Anyways, I’m not sure why they both want to win, especially when considering the Madden Curse. I’m definitely not saying it’s a real thing, but I’m not saying it’s not a real thing.
