Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers, there was a lot of speculation that Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce could decide to retire, especially considering the new relationship with pop sensation Taylor Swift. Kelce has since made it clear that he is not retiring and will be back with the team next season, but it does sound like he has a plan for when he will retire.
During the latest episode of his New Heights podcast with his brother, Travis Kelce revealed that he is planning to retire whenever head coach Andy Reid decides to retire, saying “I’m not playing for anyone else.”
“I’m a passionate guy, I love coach Reid, coach Reid knows how much I love to play for him, I love to be a product of his coaching career,” Kelce said during the podcast according to The Mirror. “I’m not playing for anyone else but Big Red. If he calls it quits I’m out there with him. He’s not though.”
Reid is also reaching retirement age and there were also rumors that he would decide to retire following the latest Super Bowl victory, though he also has decided to come back.
So while it won’t be this year, it sounds like that retirement decision could come in the near future.
