When Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce began dating pop sensation, Taylor Swift, it was widely assumed by NFL fans that her presence at games and the attention she brought to the organization would be a distraction to the team as they tried to make the postseason and win another championship. But in a pretty shocking twist, one coach insists that’s not true. In fact, he claims Swift actually helped the team.

During a recent appearance on The Sports Shop With Reese & Kmac, Kansas City Chiefs defensive backs coach Dave Merritt explained that Taylor Swift “actually affected the team in a positive way” by the way she made Travis Kelce happy and how she fit in within the organization.

“My player, my brother is happy beside me,” he said. “Travis came in there a different man. So, she helped us.”

Merritt claims that Swift “actually added to” what the Chiefs were trying to do as an organization and became part of the family.

“Upon meeting her, I felt like she actually added to what it was that we were trying to do. Because there were so many people that were hating the fact that she was being shown on TV, that you know what, you’re part of our family because you’re now with Travis, so therefore you’re our little sister or you’re whatever it may be, you’re part of family.”

Obviously, this is very different than most people would have expected, and his comments led to a lot of buzz on social media.

It’s pretty clear that the team was happy to have her around.
