When Taylor Swift began dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce last year, she instantly became the most famous football fan on the planet and helped lead to a surge in attention to the league. And it sounds like the league’s marketing team knew exactly what sort of impact she would have as soon as she and Kelce began dating.
During a recent speech, Kansas City Chiefs team owner Clark Hunt revealed that he was at the NFL’s league headquarters when Taylor Swift first attended a Chiefs game in support of Travis Kelce, and he said the excitement amongst the league’s marketing team was palpable.
“I happened to be at the NFL headquarters the week after she showed up for our first game,” Hunt said in the speech, according to The Spun. “I had never seen the marketing people in the league office that excited. They were giddy, they were jumping around. So I think that tells you.”
Obviously, there was reason for the league’s marketing team to be excited. Swift’s mere presence at games led to a surge in television ratings which then led to a surge in revenue for the league. And her continued interest will bring more fans to the game.
Clearly, the NFL is excited to have her involved.
