Russell Wilson snagged his sixth playoff victory with Sunday’s miraculous win over the Green Bay Packers, but the 3rd-year quarterback played one of his worst games as a pro.
Wilson started the game 2-for-9 with three interceptions and had a zero quarterback rating at halftime. He managed to get things together enough during the game’s final three minutes and game-winning drive in overtime to finish 14-for-29 for 209 yards with two total touchdowns and four picks. Wilson’s final QB rating was 44.3.
Yes, Wilson partially led the two late scoring drives and his two deep passes in OT were beautiful but he played a horrendous game. Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times disagrees, giving him a “B” grade.
Think about that for a minute.
Russell Wilson threw four interceptions, bobbled a couple snaps, misfired on a few open targets and played one of his worst games as three seasons. Condotta gave him a “B” with the following explanation:
Russell Wilson, who entered the game with the highest passer rating in NFL playoff history at 109.6, had a zero rating in the first half as the Seahawks fell behind 16-0. But after starting 2 for 9 with three interceptions, Wilson finished 14 of 29 for 209 yards, including 3 for 3 for 80 yards in overtime. He also played through one of the biggest hits he’s taken in his career, a crushing blow from Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews. And while he finished with four interceptions, he ultimately led a team to a Super Bowl for the second time in his first three seasons, something no one else has ever done.
Wilson did not lead the Seahawks to the win. Marshawn Lynch, the Seahawks’ bold special teams playcalling and a few botched plays by the Green Bay Packers won that ballgame for Seattle.
It is a completely baffling grade that should read “D”.
Remove that homer cap buddy and admit Wilson played God awful.
