Three weeks ago, Chris Matthews was essentially an unknown. He had entered the Super Bowl with no career receptions. His one moment in the spotlight was recovering the dramatic onside kick against the Green Bay Packers.
Then, in the Super Bowl of all places, Matthews has been involved in two of Seattle’s biggest plays. First, he caught a 44 yard bomb from Russell Wilson which helped set up Seattle’s first touchdown.
Then, with seconds remaining in the half and down seven points, Wilson found Matthews for a game-tying 11 yard touchdown. Again, this is a guy who had no career receptions coming into the Super Bowl.
Tom Brady wasn’t amused.
