The Pittsburgh Steelers saw their season end in the Wild Card Round of the postseason, which perhaps showed the limitations of their offense led by Russell Wilson. But on Wednesday, Wilson made it clear that he would like to return to Pittsburgh should they be willing to have him back.

This season, Wilson had some great moments from time to time after earning the starting job over Justin Fields midway through the year.

And when it mattered most in the postseason, Wilson did perform admirably, throwing for 270 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers in the Wild Card Round against the Baltimore Ravens.

Despite this, the Steelers offense put up just 14 points in the game. This continued a worrying trend, a lack of scoring offensively for the Steelers while Wilson was their starting quarterback.

You could argue that Wilson played as well as he could have with the weapons he had on offense. But still, some Steelers fans see the ceiling that the Steelers offense seems to have with Wilson at the helm at quarterback.

At 36 years of age, it’s now unclear whether the Steelers will reload with Wilson as their quarterback again this coming season or potentially look elsewhere.

While the Steelers interest in Wilson returning remains unclear, during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Wilson stated his intention to play for the Steelers again next season.

“Going into Pittsburgh was a special place for me,” Wilson said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday. “Hopefully I get to play there for a lot longer. It’s a special place because of the guys in the locker room, the traditions, and the people, and the winning, and all of that. Plus, you’ve got Mike Tomlin, who’s arguably the best coach of all time — one of the top ones, just because of who he is and how he motivates us. Even through the storm, I think we battled and a lot of that was because of coach Tomlin and who he is and how he makes us prepare.”

This season, Wilson showed that he still has plenty left in the tank and that he can thrive in the correct situation.

Whether it is with Pittsburgh or somewhere else, it looks like Wilson will look at furthering his NFL career. So it should be interesting to see how this offseason plays out for the former Super Bowl champion.
