The Beatles are arguably one of the most important and famous musical acts in history. But one of the former members seems to think that Taylor Swift is now in that category.
During a recent interview with American Songwriter, The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr was asked if he thought Taylor Swift rival Beatlemania of the 1960s.
“Do you think what’s happening with Taylor Swift could be the closest thing to Beatlemania for this generation?” asked Katherine Yeske Taylor for American Songwriter.
Starr offered a pretty clear and succinct response.
“I do,” he said. “I think Taylor Swift is great anyway. She’s pulling them in, you know. When we talk about her, I always have to mention that the first time I met her, she was 14. She was at the Grammys with her mother. Then, I saw a photo of her the other day, just yesterday, of her and her mother.”
However, he wasn’t totally willing to give up music’s throne to Taylor Swift just yet.
While he acknowledged that she is extraordinarily popular right now, he pointed out that The Beatles are, too. Even all these years later.
“Taylor is the ‘now’ one. We are the ‘still now,’” Starr explained.
Swift was already one of the most popular individuals on the planet but her popularity has soared in recent months, especially after she began dating Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce, opening herself up to a whole new audience.
With her soaring fame, Swift has become the wealthiest female musician in history, surpassing Rihanna earlier this year.
And now, she also has the respect and admiration of a music legend.
