The St. Louis Rams’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers experienced a half hour delay after the Rams’ field turf caught fire.
The fire occured during the Rams’ pre-game entrance, where the team’s use of pyrotechnics ended up being somewhat uncontrolled.

The only surprising thing is that stuff like this doesn’t happen more often. With all the pomp and circumstance that surrounds every NFL game now, the combustible combination of turf and flames seems like an accident just begging to happen.
