As the Raiders-to-San Antonio rumors continue to swirl, with daily reports refuting daily reports and other daily reports refuting the daily reports that are refuting daily reports, does the city really want a team that can’t buy a win? They were simply overmatched and subsequently annihilated by the Denver Broncos on Sunday, bringing their 2014 record to a less-than-intimidating 0-9.
They have managed to eclipse 17 points on only two occasions and despite a handful of close finishes, they only have one mission remaining this season: 1 win. The Detroit Lions hold the honorable distinction of the only team to ever finish 0-16 and while Oakland has seven more opportunities to avoid joining the elite club, where will their victory come? Certainly not in the form of a Derek Carr-Khalif Barnes connection.
Of those seven games, only one comes against a team without a winning record in the 3-6 St. Louis Rams and the other six are playoff contenders:
- Week 11: at San Diego
- Week 12: vs. Kansas City
- Week 13: at St. Louis
- Week 14: vs. San Francisco
- Week 15: at Kansas City
- Week 16: vs. Buffalo
- Week 17: at Denver
For those wondering if they might have a Week 17 home game against a borderline playoff team that has already sealed their January fate…nope. The Broncos probably won’t need a Week 17 win but even if Brock Osweiler starts, there is no chance the hapless Raiders win at Mile High.
It appears Derek Carr’s best chance for a win comes either in Week 13 at St. Louis or Week 16 against Buffalo at home. Miss on those two and the franchise might be able to add another notch of history to their already destructive 21st century legacy.
