Thanks to a Drew Brees fumble, the San Francisco 49ers were put in a very good position to kick a game-winning field goal in overtime against the New Orleans Saints.
Then from 35 yards out, Phil Dawson did… this.
The ball veers to the left before suddenly jerking all the way to the right as if there was some interruption in the Earth’s gravitational field (remember, this game took place in a damn dome) and, somehow, went right on through the field goal uprights for the winning points. Just look at that trajectory. It’s like the ball has a mind of its own.
One could say that it’s almost as improbable as a game-winning Hail Mary being wiped out by an offensive pass interference penalty.
