The New York Jets are in search of a new head coach after firing Rober Saleh earlier this year. And it sounds like they could be targeting a rather experienced candidate.
According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the New York Jets are expected to interview veteran NFL coach Ron Rivera about the vacancy.
“The #Jets are scheduled to interview Ron Rivera for their head coaching job this week, per sources,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
“In 13 seasons with Carolina and Washington, Rivera made the playoffs five times, including an appearance in Super Bowl 50. The first of many HC interviews to come in NYJ’s search,” Pelissero added.
Rivera most recently coached the Washington Commanders but was fired following last season as the team replaced him with Dan Quinn.
During his time with Washington, Rivera had just a 26-40-1 record. Before that, however, he had quite a successful stint with the Carolina Panthers.
During his time with the Panthers, Rivera led the team to a 76-63-1 record that included a trip to Super Bowl 50.
We’ll have to see whether or not the Jets decide to hire Rivera.
It’s likely that the team will interview several other potential candidates, too.
