The New Orleans Saints lost their backup quarterback this offseason as Jameis Winston signed with the Cleveland Browns instead of opting to return to the Saints, and it sounds like New Orleans has keyed in on a potential candidate to replace him.
According to a report from Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football, the New Orleans Saints have decided to bring in veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman to potentially serve as the backup quarterback for Derek Carr.
“Saints signed Nathan Peterman to compete as the backup quarterback, per source,” Underhill said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Peterman worked with QB coach Andrew Janocko in Chicago and served as the backup for Carr before.

“Peterman worked with QB coach Andrew Janocko in Chicago and served as the backup for Carr before,” Underhill said in a follow-up post.
Peterman spent the past two seasons with the Chicago Bears adding depth behind starter Justin Fields.
Carr is obviously expected to remain the starter for the Saints next season. The team also has 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener on the roster along with utility player Taysom Hill, who will likely stay in the rotation for snaps at the position, as well.
We’ll have to see whether or not Peterman can earn the backup quarterback role.
