This offseason, superstar wide receiver Mike Evans elected to sign a two-year contract extension to remain with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But it sounds like he very much considered the possibility of teaming up with superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, instead.
During a recent interview with NFL Media, Mike Evans admitted that if he did not sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he considered signing with the Houston Texans – his hometown team – or the Kansas City Chiefs to play with Patrick Mahomes.
“I mean, in the back of my mind, I’m thinking Houston, Kansas City,” Evans told NFL Media. “I love Pat Mahomes’ game. I’m thinking those two teams. And I’m obviously thinking the Bucs.”
Obviously, that didn’t ultimately happen as Evans instead elected to re-sign with the Buccaneers where he has played his entire career, but the possibility certainly led to a lot of reactions on social media.

Considering how things went with Stamkos, if M1K3 had left the Bucs for KC, it would’ve been the worst summer in Tampa history. I get sick just thinking about it. https://t.co/dfrB5eom4m

Mike Evans says he thought about the Texans or Chiefs if he hadn’t returned to the Bucs … https://t.co/HFcofMLNrg

Thinking if he didn't already get his with Brady, he would've. Being a part of the only team that beat Mahomes in the Super Bowl is something no other team gets to say yet.

Both would have been hard. Texans I would have understood. But KC.. that would have hurt. I think he knows what he means to us. He is our legend, along with Lavonte. We love you M1K3 🤘🏼

These were the two teams I was scared of losing Mike to.
On the Chiefs he has potential to catch 20 TD’s from Mahomes in that offense.
In Houston he’s close to his home town and has CJ Stroud.
Glad Mike is a Buc for life. https://t.co/3BlDj5MsEl

Ultimately, Evans said that the Buccaneers were the best fit for him.
“I mean, I’ve been here my whole career,” Evans said. “And that was a goal of mine, obviously. . . . It would’ve been extremely hard, if I hit free agency, to leave here. But this is where my family knows. My kids were born here. My wife’s been here a long time.”
