Micah Parsons has not been with the Dallas Cowboys for the vast majority of the team’s voluntary workouts and organized team activities, and it doesn’t sound like head coach Mike McCarthy is necessarily happy about his absence.
During a press conference this week, Mike McCarthy called out Micah Parson a bit for not taking part in workouts and OTAs, calling it an “opportunity that’s been missed” for him to work with new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
“I think any time that you have a chance to be together, it’s an opportunity to improve,” McCarthy said according to the Dallas Cowboys official team website. “Whether it’s in the mental realm, the physical realm and the emotional connection and so forth. It’s a long year. Training camp is really the heightened focus for all of that, but it’s definitely an opportunity that’s been missed [for Parsons].”
Obviously, the team would have liked Parsons to be present, but he and the team know it will be on him to be ready by the time training camp starts.
“At the end of the day, everybody has a responsibility,” McCarthy said. “It’s our jobs. Obviously, we have this period of time to have football activity that’s regulated. I wouldn’t say fortunately, but 98 percent of our football team has been here. We’ve accomplished a lot.
“Everybody has a responsibility whether they’re here or not here to get what they need, because when we get to Oxnard that is our one opportunity for real football.”
