Connor Williams is currently a Center for the Miami Dolphins. Despite being a formidable player, there isn’t a lot of information about him. You might see Williams’ name pop up on NFL news boards every now and then, but, like most Centers, Williams can easily fade into the background.

Let’s change that today, and shine a light on this phenomenal player:

Before Williams went to college he attended Coppell High School. There he played as a right tackle, a position very different from his current one.  It took a while for Williams to figure out where he played best, and by his sophomore year, Williams had changed to a tight end. Again, this position didn’t stick either and by the end of the year, Williams was playing as a left tackle.

Throughout all of these school days, Williams was battling bullying. It didn’t matter how good he was at football, his classmates were never really friendly with him.

By his senior year, Williams was acting as a two-way player. He racked up enough attention to gain a scholarship. By the end of his school days, Williams was part of the second team for the All-District and the All-State.

Williams And The University Of Texas

Williams received his football scholarship and started his college career as a left tackle. He started every game in his first year. Williams was considered a prodigy, and in the following year, Williams continued to impress. He started 11 of the 12 games available and again played as a left tackle. It seemed as though Williams had found the perfect position for this talent. Throughout local media, Williams was a name seen again and again. Coaches and local news reporters said that Williams was the best offensive tackle the team had seen in years.

But these days we need more than catchy words. We need awards and honors. And, that’s exactly what Williams got. By the end of his sophomore year, Williams became the 4th sophomore at the University of Texas to receive first-team All-American honors.

Williams was a star.

However, that’s when things started to take a turn. During his Junior year, Williams was hit with a knee injury. He ended up returning that same season to play in the 11th game, but this was his first real break from football. He only played 4 out of 12 games that season.

Some people thought that the injury was enough to put Williams on the bench forever, but he had different ideas. Instead of staying in school, Williams decided to forgo his senior year and join the 2018 NFL Drafts.

Williams And The Dallas Cowboys

Williams was picked 50th overall in the second round. Not quite the roaring success he hoped for, but still he had made it. Dallas wanted Williams as a guard, but the first 8 games saw our man benched. When Zack Martin was benched due to an injury Williams could finally emerged. Unfortunately, Williams again didn’t make a great impact. He was good enough to stay, but not amazing enough to make the papers. By 2021 Williams had changed to a center position and spent most of his time on the bench nursing his recurring knee injury. He received 2 key penalties during the Wild Card Playoff and ended the year with the least amount of pressure. Williams was no longer worth his salt, or so the Cowboys thought. They were happy for Williams to sign on with someone else.

Williams And the Miami Dolphins

In March 2022, Williams signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins. The contract itself was worth $14 million. At this point, Williams switched to becoming solely a center. Williams was also pushed forward into becoming the starter, as Michael Deiter fell to the sidelines. In his first season with the team, he played in 17 games with the following achievements:

  • 1,057 Snaps
  • 6 Penalties
  • 3 Sacks allowed

Williams was also the only player involved in all offensive snaps that season.

Williams On Paper

It’s hard to judge a center by their stats, as there aren’t many to look through. However, throughout his career, Williams has received the following awards:

  • All American – 2015
  • All American – 2016
  • All Big 12 – 2016
  • Games Played 66
  • Games Started 60

Williams still has a way to go to prove himself in the NFL, but if you’re looking for a strong yet cheap Fantasy NFL center, then Connor could be for you. Still, we are unsure how Williams will do this season. Rumor has it that Williams didn’t come to the June 6th Mini Camp. The Miami Dolphins didn’t give an excused absence for the center and as far as we know he still wants to play for the team. Our sources say that Williams even asked for an extension to his contract. Again, indecisive elements of Williams’ personality are coming to the surface. Will he still be part of the team when the season comes around, or will Williams be kicked to the curb?
