Marvin Harrison Jr. was selected as the No. 4 overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the upcoming NFL Draft. And even though he was a top-five pick and is the son of a Hall of Fame wide receiver, it sounds like he’s going to have to earn his spot in the lineup just like everyone else.
During a recent press conference, Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing made it clear that despite his pedigree and his hype, Marvin Harrison Jr. will need to prove himself just like any other player who steps foot in the team facilities.
“In my opinion, he has to be like everyone else if he’s going to be the best version of himself,” Petzing said. “The way that he comes in and approaches his job, the way that he goes out there and practices, the way that he integrates himself into the team, if he’s going to be the best version of himself, I think those are the things he has to focus on. And that’s certainly what we’re going to emphasize.”
We’ll have to see how long it takes Harrison to earn a consistent role in the team’s offense. Based on his obvious talent, though, it probably won’t be that long.
