It sounds like the Jacksonville Jaguars’ search for their next head coach has hit a bit of a snag as one of their top targets is now refusing to continue with the interview process.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen had been one of the top candidates for the Jacksonville Jaguars as they search for their next head coach.
But according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, Coen is refusing to continue with the interview process and has decided to return to Tampa Bay next season.
“Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen is taking himself out of the running for the Jaguars’ head coaching job to stay in Tampa on a new contract that now will place him amongst the highest-paid coordinators in the NFL, per sources,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
“Bucs are keeping their OC,” Schefter concluded.
Coen joined Tampa Bay last season and immediately helped transform the team into one of the best offenses in the league.
Under Coen’s leadership, Tampa Bay finished No. 3 in the league in total yards and No. 4 in points. The Buccaneers also ranked No. 4 in rushing and No. 3 in passing offense in 2024, helping the club capture a fourth consecutive NFC South title.
It would have been a good hire for the Jaguars. Unfortunately, he is no longer interested.
