Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts has shown promise, but he hasn’t been quite the player the team hoped he’d be after they selected him with the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft. But it sounds like the team still has a lot of confidence in him going forward.
This week, new Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris made it clear that the team sees a lot of potential in Kyle Pitts despite his lack of production the past two seasons.
“If we can get this guy going, we all know what he could be,” Morris said according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “That’s the job of the coach, to find out what a player can be and go get the best out of him. Hopefully, myself, along with my staff, and all of our coaches, we can go and get the best version of Kyle Pitts because that will be really good for all of us.”
After a promising rookie season where he totaled 68 catches for 1,026 yards, Pitts has had fewer receiving yards the past two seasons combined, in part because he’s been limited by injury. But now that he’s healthy, the Falcons are expecting big things.
“He’s very excited about being healthy, and so are we,” Morris said. “Getting a healthy Kyle Pitts gives you a really dynamic player that we believe in a lot. Hence, the picking up of his option [and] letting him be a part of our immediate and hopefully our long-term future.”
We’ll have to see how he performs this season.
