It’s no secret that Patrick Mahomes has been lacking playmaking wide receivers to throw to ever since the team parted ways with superstar Tyreek Hill. But the Kansas City Chiefs made a pretty major move for Mahomes in the NFL Draft on Thursday night, giving him perhaps the speediest wide receiver ever to enter the league.
Last month, Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy clocked the fastest 40-yard dash time in the history of the NFL Combine. And on Thursday night, the Kansas City Chiefs traded up to select him with the No. 28 pick in the NFL Draft, giving Mahomes a new target to throw to.
“The #Chiefs trade up and take the fastest player in Combine history: #Texas WR Xavier Worthy goes to KC at No. 28. No wonder Patrick Mahomes is happy,” Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ struggles at the wide receiver position have been well-documented over the past couple of years. We’ll have to see whether or not Worthy can be the playmaker the team has been missing on the outside the past couple of years.
