The Kansas City Chiefs will be trying to win an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title this upcoming season, and it sounds like the team is already making some pretty significant moves to set themselves up for that Super Bowl run.
According to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs are restructuring the contract of star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to free up over $20 million in salary cap space for this upcoming season.
“Patrick Mahomes will be restructuring his contract to create an additional $21.6 million worth of salary-cap space for the Chiefs as they aim to become the first NFL team to three-peat, per league sources,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Of course, this move doesn’t simply get rid of the salary cap obligation, it just moves it to a different season.
As a result of this move, the Chiefs will now have more dead salary cap money hit their books in the following years even if they have more salary cap space in this season.
Needless to say, it sounds like the Chiefs are going to go all-in on trying to three-peat next season.
