Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made headlines over the weekend with a controversial commencement speech at Benedictine University, a private Catholic school.
Butker took aim at LGTBQ rights, Joe Biden, abortion, and women in the work place, among other topics.
“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world,” Butker said to the graduating women in the crowd. “But I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.
“I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”
Butker went on to say that the most important title they could receive in life was that of “homemaker.”
Those words became especially awkard after Page Six exposed the fact that Butker’s mother, Keller, is an accomplished physicist.
According to her LinkedIn, Butler has worked in the department of radiation oncology at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. A 2020 article by the school’s Winship Cancer Institute, cited by Page Six, stated she specializes in two forms of radiation: brachythera and Gamma Knife medical physics care.
Keller Butker did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comments about her son’s controversial remarks.
