Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has experienced his fair share of injuries throughout his four-year NFL career. And on Tuesday, Burrow admitted that these frequent injuries have taken a “mental toll” on him as he heads into his fifth season in Cincinnati.
Burrow of course missed the final seven games of the season last year due to a torn ligament in his throwing wrist. This was on top of a right calf injury that plagued him from Week 2 on last year, which he was able to play through.
When Burrow has been on the field, he has been spectacular. The Bengals are a very clear threat in the AFC if Burrow is healthy.
But unfortunately, injuries have been a part of Burrow’s story early on in his NFL career. And this has been something Burrow has struggled with as he looks to return from another season-ending injury this offseason.
“Whenever the injuries start to stack up your football mortality kind of comes into the back of your mind,” said Burrow in an interview with Bengals beat reporter Kelsey Conway. “So, that’s definitely something I’ve thought about and something I have had to fight through.”

It’s fairly understandable as to why Burrow has struggled with this. We’ve seen excellent quarterbacks in the past like former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck who had excellent skills, but just weren’t able to stay healthy.
Luck ultimately retired early to prevent any further damage to his body. Hopefully, Burrow doesn’t have to follow in Luck’s footsteps.
