The Cincinnati Bengals came up just short of a playoff berth this season. As a result, Joe Burrow is apologizing to fans.

The Bengals did everything they could late in the season to make a final playoff push after a disappointing start to the season, winning the last five games of the season.

Cincinnati even got a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh to keep their playoff hopes alive entering Sunday’s slate of games, but things did not go their way as the Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Denver Broncos in a blowout as the Chiefs rested their starters.

It was a disappointing season for a team that had hopes of competing for a Super Bowl, and Joe Burrow issued an apology to fans on social media.

“Season to remember, sorry you won’t get to watch anymore. Year 5 in the books,” Burrow said in a post on Instagram on Monday morning.

Of course, the lackluster season had little to do with Burrow himself, who put up MVP-caliber stats all season.

The Bengals lost four games this season in games in which Burrow and the offense scored 30 or more points – by far the most of any team in the league.

Burrow led the entire league in passing yards and passing touchdowns while ranking in the top five in the league in quarterback rating and completion percentage.

Still, Burrow seems to be taking ownership after the disappointing end to the season.

We’ll have to see how the team bounces back next season.
