Dallas Cowboys team owner and general manager Jerry Jones has some decisions to make regarding the future of head coach Mike McCarthy, and it sounds like he thinks he has all the information he needs.
Jones declined to give Mike McCarthy a contract extension heading into this season, which means that McCarthy’s contract will come to an end at the end of the season, putting his long-term status with the team in question.
With the Cowboys suffering a disappointing season and missing the postseason, it remains to be seen whether McCarthy will return for another season leading the team or if Jones wants to go in a different direction.
While the decision has not been made yet, it sounds like Jones has all the information he needs to make that decision.
During a Friday appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones indicated that he has seen all he needs to see already and this week’s game won’t really have much of an impact on any decision he makes.
“No, the hay’s in the barn as far as our staff is concerned . . . I don’t think there’s something that would happen out there Sunday impacting where we’re going to be as we go forward,” Jones said according to Todd Archer of ESPN.
While Jones has never explicitly indicated where he was leaning in terms of this decision, he has made it clear that he has seen some silver linings in an otherwise disappointing season.
During the interview, Jones said “it doesn’t take any effort on my part to look at see the positives” from McCarthy’s team this season.
We’ll have to see what decision Jones ultimately makes.
