As the New England Patriots move forward with new head coach Jerod Mayo after parting ways with longtime head coach Bill Belichick, the team is projected to have a lot of salary cap space this offseason. And it sounds like the team intends to make full use of it.

During an appearance on WEEI on Monday, Jerod Mayo acknowledged that the team has a lot of salary cap space and he vowed to “burn some cash” in an attempt to restock the team with talented players.

“We’re bringing in talent, 1,000 percent,” Mayo said during his radio appearance according to Pro Football Talk. “Have a lot of cap space, and cash. Burn some cash.”

Obviously, things will be a little bit different for the Patriots moving forward as the team will now have to hire a general manager to run the team’s personnel department – a role Belichick handled himself during his longtime stint as the team’s head coach.

We’ll have to see how the Patriots decide to handle these changes during the offseason, but it is clear that it’s a new era for the team, and they have a lot of flexibility for any changes they want to make going forward.
