Jameis Winston has a lot of experience as a starting quarterback in the league and has made it clear that he still thinks he has what it takes to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. So it was a little bit surprising when he chose to sign with the Cleveland Browns, considering they already have a starter in Deshaun Watson. But he explained that decision this week.
During a recent press conference, Jameis Winston revealed that the opportunity to play with and serve as the backup to Deshaun Watson was actually a big reason why he chose to sign with the Browns.
“A big reason that I wanted to come here [was] because the opportunity was here for me to serve and to give to my teammates,” Winston said according to Pro Football Talk. “And him being one of the best quarterbacks in this league, being a quarterback that I have had [the opportunity] to see him grow as a number one draft pick and just see his ascension as a player. I have familiarity with that, so it’s an honor to serve him.”
It sounds like Winston is committed to being the best teammate he can be for Watson.
