Philadelphia Eagles star safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was not at all happy with a hit that knocked star wide receiver Devonta Smith out of the game on Sunday.
Devonta Smith was injured when New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Khristian Boyd hit him from behind while he was already wrapped up.
The hit knocked Smith’s helmet off and he did not return to the game as he was evaluated for a concussion on the sideline.
While no flag was thrown by the officials, Gardner-Johnson did not hold back his thoughts on what he thought was a “dirty” play from the Saints defensive lineman.
“Man, that’s the dirtiest [thing] I ever saw in football, bro,” Gardner-Johnson said according to Tim McManus of ESPN.
“Y’all obviously saw forward progression was stopped. For them to take a cheap shot on one of our key players, it goes to show what type of team that is. They’re front-runners.”
Smith did not return to the game after the hit, but the Eagles were still able to pull out a 15-12 victory thanks to a late touchdown drive and an interception from their defense.
We’ll have to see how Smith recovers from the injury that he sustained this week.
