Deshaun Watson Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Ahead of the 2022 NFL season, the Cleveland Browns signed quarterback Deshaun Watson to an absolutely massive, fully guaranteed contract. Through the first two years of that contract, he has not seen the field all that much as he’s dealt with a number of injuries. But it sounds like the team isn’t all that worried about his injuries.

During a radio show appearance this week, Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry made it clear that the team is happy with Deshaun Watson following the trade last year.

“[We] do feel really good about him, happy with the progress that he’s made within our organization, both on the field and off the field,” Berry said according to Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan. “And we’re looking forward to get him back next year. We think he’s going to have a really big year and have a ton of confidence in him as our starting quarterback.”

Obviously, the team would like to see him on the field more often, but Berry and the team understand that Watson can’t necessarily help the injuries.

“When we made the trade, we really looked at it as, hey, this is something that we’ll evaluate like a 10-year time horizon,” Berry said. “Obviously we want him on the field more often than he’s been. He can’t help the shoulder injuries this year, but we’re really pleased with him. He’s very talented, he’s very hardworking, he’s adaptable and we really feel good about it moving forward.”

We’ll have to see how Watson performs for the team next season.
