The Dallas Cowboys have been in search of their next head coach after parting ways with previous head coach Mike McCarthy during the offseason, and it sounds like the team has made their pick.
According to a report from Clarence Hill Jr. of All City DLLS, the Dallas Cowboys are finalizing a contract with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to make him the team’s next head coach.
Hill expects a deal to be done no later than Friday, possibly even on Thursday.
“Look for the Cowboys to cross the finish line on hiring Brian Schottenheimer no later than Friday, possibly today,” Hill said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Schottenheimer got his first job as an NFL coordinator with the New York Jets in 2006. He has since bounced around the league, serving as the coordinator for the Rams, Colts, Seahawks, and Jaguars in addition to a stint with the Georgia Bulldogs at the college level before joining the Cowboys before the 2022 season.
While Schottenheimer himself does not have any experience as a head coach, he is the son of longtime NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer.
Schottenheimer did not have any other interviews with any other teams regarding their vacant head coaching position.
We’ll have to see how he performs in the new role.
