The NFL is an ever-changing and ever-expanding league, and it sounds like the Dallas Cowboys are expecting a pretty significant one in the coming years.
During a recent appearance on the Scoop City podcast, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones made it clear that he thinks it’s “probably inevitable” that the league jumps from its current 17-game schedule to an 18-game schedule at some point in the near future.
“I’m on the competition committee. We’ve talked about this knowing that it’s probably inevitable,” Jones said on the podcast according to Pro Football Talk. “I do know, at the end of the day, the players enjoy the compensation that’s coming their way, and they get, for the most part, half of every revenue dollar that comes through the door. So certainly getting paid well. We all know when we go to 18 games, our revenue’s going to jump, and certainly should only help in terms of money available to pay players and get players the compensation.”
It’s not clear when exactly this would happen or how the league would adapt to a longer season, but there has been a lot of chatter about it in recent years and it seems like the NFL is certainly headed in that direction.
